Waltod by Zippo4k Waltod by Zippo4k
W00t! Another creature concept for Affex, DONE!
Waltods are a line of herbivorous, deer/antelope-like tetralobates, common prey for large Frann (who's full body picture will need to be redone due to a few complications).

All in all, I'm quite pleased with the way this came out.

So, what I've come to as far as the use of the term "polylobate" is that it is the equivalent of 'tetrapod' in our terms. All of the vertebrate rametosaurs I've shown are polylobates (which makes the archetypal one I drew at the beginning a virtual HAM* among main-stem terrestrial rametosaurs** (a 'HAR' if you will).

*H.A.M.=Hypothetical Ancestral Mollusk: [link]
H.A.R.: Hypothetical Ancestral Rametosaur

**'Pitbull Squids' are a terrestrial rametosaur that is NOT a member of the main stem, and represents a separate colonization attempt of the land by aquatic rametosaurs. They are now mostly restricted to tropical and arboreal niches.

It's 1:17am, I'm exhausted, I have class tomorrow, and the pollen in the air makes me what to take a dremel to my face. Blegh!
If I think of anything else I'll type it up here, but for now, good night!

This looks nice, alien and functional, meaning NOT made to look as alien as possible just 'cause. :) Well done.

Waltods are deer/horse equivalents for Affex, so yes, although they're easily frightened. :)

Very awesome ! But does the waltod also have light sensitive organs "eyes" ?

Yes, they all have well developed eyes surrounded by a fleshy, fatty eyelid (that either moves in sphincter-esque manor like those of a Vampire Squid or they open and close horizontally).

It also keeps them leveled above the ground, so that it can listen to danger while it feeds, much like the 1st head of snaiadi vertebrates can keep watch while the 2nd head feeds.

Fantastic work again, Zippo! The way your creature designs are going is fun to watch.

I really like the style you draw your creations in. The varying line width, the softer details and the attention to shape and texture make for really realistic drawings. You can see the curve of the body, the shape of a very alien head and the elastic pumping strength of the legs without having the detail take away from the overall picture.

You've some skills boy. Now put down that dremel and pick up an antihistamine!

Thanks. :D I always love getting comments, because other people often can notice things about my work I often don't notice or take for granted. Thanks!

I have an aquatic (hexalobate?) and plans for how wings will work on another group of animals.

Legs are the best part.

Hmm, seems people are making their icon pictures based on their animals. I otta try that too.

This is an interesting design, but the lower legs seem to lock to firmly in place unlike the tetroblates

It's just how I drew if for the perspective. The limbs work the same, although they're less elastic (something that I'm spreading across the board. The limbs of the tetralobate were drawn to appear too elastic, something I fear would not be possible for a terrestrial animal that would need to be able to support its own weight. That's why I need to redo the image of the frann.)
