Just so you all know I am keeping my word, non of the images I'm posting for the contest are complete...

Mendelites are the answer to the riddle posted here: [link]
"It has not eyes, no mouth, no front or back... no face... come to think of it, it doesn't really have a digestive system... I'm not even sure if it has a brain. Yet some how it's managed to create ships & has become universally feared (for some rather interesting reasons).:o"

This riddle was sadly flawed in that Medelites, after some pondering and tinkering, don't build their own ships, but to dabble in space travel.
Still, the rest is true.

Other races tend to try to avoid the Mendelites due to a gaping language barrier. They're capable of making noise (a deep, resonating sigh) but the purpose or meaning of such sound is not understood by anyone. Average height is highly variable, but tends to be about 20-30 feet.
How the hell do you get so tall?
They have a ridge, but hollow thoracic structure composed of articulated ball/socket joints and hinges.

Their culture is poorly known impart due to the language barrier and the avoidance by other races. In fact, it's probably easier to talk about what is not known rather then what is.
One thing is clear though: Mendelites certainly don't view other races quite like one would expect. They seem to have difficulty with the fact that these small scurrying things are also sentient, treating faunal races more like humans treats plants, often by stepping on them... OR by leeching the water & inorganic nutrients from their bodies. (Creepy!)

Recently, though (in their universe), there have been some break through in the communications barriers by the Psyne.

I'll try and elaborate more on these guys later...

No one's winning and no one's loosing. I really don't like that kind of selective pressure (being someone who doesn't tolerate psychological stress well).

What I've decided to do rather is (as I have allot or races) I'm matching people up with each one for various reasons.

This one's obvious. A plant for a plant. ^U^

The Mendelites were selected for whalewithlegs' Wander Nuts*: [link]

*I feel oddly dirty when I read this. :|

this is cool, i love plant and fungoid creatures. you know scientist have found out plants actually communicate with there own species. if one is under attack it tells the others and they up there chemical defenses.

Fantastic take on having a non-animal-analogue for a sapient!

Are these sentients stand-alone organisms or part of a coherent setting?
inspired.

and plausibly weird!
haha, sweet, this is a great response piece. it reminds me very vaguely of a short story I think you'd like called 'softly spoke the gabbleduck' if you can find a copy of it.
Yeah, I've heard a peep here and there about it but nothing detailed...
...It sounds like it's done through their roots, if I'm not mistaken.

A coherent setting. All my races are in the same universe/multiverse together.
(While they all originate form the same universe, due to certain catastrophic events many have fled to other regions of space or to other universes all together. It's... confusing at times...)

Sweet! I'll keep my eyes peeled. :D

I'm not happy with the proportions... they have longer legs & the head actually a bit big...

I have the problem where the vision in my head is so elaborate that it's very hard to translate it accurately enough onto paper (though I know lots of people have that issue).
